MCHC Health Centers celebrated National Health Center Week in style this year. From Willits to Ukiah to Lakeport, our employees volunteered their time and talent to reach out and wrap a big healthcare hug around our communities.
We are thankful to our staff for volunteering their time and to our community partners for helping make these events happen.
Ukiah: Kids Farmers Market, Barra, Motel 6, Plowshares
Willits: Daily Bread and Willits Farmer’s Market
Lake County: Concerts in the Park and Big Oak Peer Center
MCHC hosted a booth at the Kids Farmers Market in Ukiah where our dental staff taught 80 children about how to take care of their oral health and at the Willits Farmer’s Market and Concerts in the Park in Lakeport here we let folks know we are here for them, even if they are in the far corners of our remote counties.
Another group of MCHC volunteers set up a health education fair at a local a hotel in Ukiah where many seasonal farm workers stay. We provided free screenings for high blood pressure and diabetes, and informed farm workers of their eligibility for MediCal health insurance, which is available regardless of a person’s immigration status.
In an effort to support the local unhoused population, we partnered with Plowshares Community Dining Center in Ukiah, Daily Bread in Willits and at the Big Oak Peer Center in Clearlake Oakes where we handed out basic supplies such as sunscreen, toothpaste, tote bags, and more, while reminding people that MCHC provides healthcare to people regardless of their ability to pay. In addition to the basic supplies supplied by MCHC, our employees donated more than 400 pairs of socks!
Thanks to all who participated in this year’s outreach efforts!
