Dr. Pena always knew he wanted to work in healthcare, and dentistry was the natural choice. After all, his mother is a dentist, too. “I wanted to follow in her footsteps,” Pena says. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of California, Los Angeles, Pena pursued dentistry at the School of Dental Medicine at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, earning a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. Prior to joining MCHC’s Dental Department, Pena worked in a private dental practice in Tracy, California. He also worked part-time with a mobile dental clinic in the Bay Area. He appreciates the ways the mobile clinic and now MCHC allow him to contribute to the community and ensure more equitable access to care. “Being part of a community clinic means a chance to help patients who are in need,” he says. Outside of work, Pena enjoys traveling, hiking, and running.
