Neha Sharma joined MCHC Health Centers in 2019 after earning her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of California, San Francisco.
Dr. Sharma chose to become a dentist as a girl when she realized that nothing was as transformative on a person’s face as a beautiful smile. As she completed secondary school, she grew to understand the full impact of dental health, both physical and emotional. She says, “I wanted to give people the gift of a beautiful smile.” She notes that dentistry not only keeps patients pain-free, but that a beautiful smile can help people become more confident and engage more with others, which often makes them happier.
She joined MCHC Health Centers after gaining experience in several venues: government and community health, private practice, and teaching. Returning to community health at MCHC has allowed her to pursue her passion for helping others, a value she learned from her father. “He has a spirit of giving. For example, he takes senior citizens out to lunch, so they don’t get lonely,” she said.
Dr. Sharma enjoys connecting with patients and helping them focus on the good things in their lives. “People are often going through a lot. I care about their overall well-being. It’s important to be compassionate and recognize that people must be mentally and emotionally fit before they’ll be interested in flossing,” she said, smiling.
